What started as a quarantine passion project quickly became known as “The Sound of Fun” – the tagline for the surf-rock band Sun Room. The founding member of the band, Luke Asgian, was a current student at Point Loma Nazarene University when the pandemic hit. After realizing music was his passion during quarantine, he enlisted Ashton Minnich, Max Pinamonti, and Gibby Anderson to join him in this project. Although Anderson would eventually leave the band in 2023, he would be replaced by drummer Thomas Rhodes for the tour. Just two weeks after forming what is now known as “Sun Room,” they were already on tour together.

After releasing their first EP, Sol Del Sur, in 2020, they started to gain traction on TikTok. With the help of viral edits filled with pure summer bliss, they released their second EP, Somewhere Tropical, the following year. This momentum continued when two of their songs were featured in season two of the hit Netflix series Outerbanks.

After this initial exposure and two EPs under their belt, Sun Room set out to join the well-known Irish band Inhaler on their first-ever American tour. Sun Room has proven itself on the international stage, starting in the United States in 2021 and ending in Europe in 2022. They also joined the former member of One Direction, Louis Tomlinson, on tour. This leg helped to amass an in-person audience in Latin America for the first time, exposing the band to a larger audience.

Riding the wave of their success, they set out for their first headlining tour soon after, with 29 shows throughout the United States lined up. Once again, they joined the Inhaler on the U.S. leg of their tour. Throughout 2023, they continued to release singles, performed at festivals and went on their second headlining tour – with 35 shows on the schedule. Despite having yet to release an album, Sun Room has proven to be a driving force. They went from performing house shows in San Diego with their closest friends to selling out venues of up to 1500 people all across the country.

Recently, they toured with Dayglow on his U.S. leg of the tour – concluding their run on October 28, 2024. During this run, they had the chance to perform songs from their newest EP titled Can’t Explain. I’ll try to ignore that their lead single off of it is titled Get Me Outta New York City.

I have luckily had the opportunity to see Sun Room in concert three times, the first being as an opener for Louis Tomlinson, the second being on their headlining tour in my hometown of St. Louis, and the third being their opening act for Dayglow in New York City. Each experience had been insanely unique, never failing to surprise me. So, if you get the chance to see them on their upcoming West Coast tour in February and March of 2025, take the opportunity. Their infectious summer vibe truly makes a difference as an audience member. Their Californian accepts never disappoint, so if you are looking for the best summertime vibes to escape during this winter season, stream Sun Room.
