With 2.8 Million monthly followers, the former ‘Sour’ Tour opener Holly Humberstone released her debut album, ‘Paint My Bedroom Black’ in October of this past year. Humberstone captures the push and pull of young and first love with just thirteen songs. She uses an indie-pop sound to bring listeners on a journey through her album. Humberstone encapsulates the ‘young-love’ emotion of hoping to share time with someone and not knowing how it will pan out through lyrics like… “Share cigarettes out in the half-light- Maybe I’ll blossom into something twice as bright.” This lyric is from the album’s third track- ‘Cocoon’ and is greatly complemented by other songs like ‘Kissing in Swimming Pools.’ This song, directly after ‘Cocoon,’ is a complementary ballad of longing. “Do you think that we’re made, To last in the coldest of weather-I wanna be the one that gets to fix you, honey.” Humberstone’s voice is unique, bringing emotions to the forefront of every song, and these two are no exceptions. The album as a whole is full of complicated song-writing that brings the listener into the artist’s mind.
