Throughout the past year and a half, my friend Anna and I have had the pleasure of meeting and seeing the band Rebounder live. It all started last November when we went to see one of our favorite bands: Sunroom. Rebounder was opening for Sunroom, and of course, we did not know who they were at the time. We enjoyed their set so much (especially the song Slow Angel) that we stayed after the show and ended up being able to meet and talk to them. Rebounder is an indie rock band from Brooklyn, started by Dylan Chenfeild, with his brother Noah Chenfeild and their friends Zack Kantor and Cobey Arner. One of the cool things about the band is that they embrace and love being from New York City. In all of their shows, they have an “I Heart NY” sign behind them, and their EP is called Subway Songs, designed to be listened to on a New York Subway. When we found out they were playing again in Brooklyn this past month, we knew we had to go. Although it was a small audience and venue, Rebounder knows how to bring energy. Even people in the room who had never heard any of their songs were able to dance around and enjoy the show. They played all of the songs from their EP, and even some new unreleased songs. There was also a freestyle segment by Dylan. After the show, we got to meet them again. It was really cool to be personable with the band and talk to them like normal people, even though we listen to their music and view them somewhat as celebrities. Due to mainstream media in the music industry, getting this opportunity doesn’t happen anymore. Even though they are an extremely talented and up-and-coming band, Rebounder is still incredibly down to Earth. So, if you’re looking for a soundtrack that captures the essence of New York City, look no further than Rebounder. They’re not just another band; they’re the sound of this city.
